A delicate root vegetable reminiscent of radish in taste, although it is much larger and more durable. Sow early to be eaten fresh. For winter storage, sow later so that the winter radishes do not have time to become woody before harvesting. Tolerates some frost, can be harvested late. Cover with non-woven fabric to protect against cabbage fly. Thrives in most types of soil, but prefers moldy soil. Water during drought.
