Plant Fertilizer Tea
Nettle Tea
Nettle water can be made from both fresh and dried nettles. It provides a good amount of nitrogen, but is also rich in phosphorus and potassium, which plants need a lot of. It also contains other substances like iron, calcium, and auxin, a type of hormone that promotes plant growth.
Here's how to make nettle water:
Collect about a kilogram of nettles and pour 10 liters of water over them so that they are covered. Let it steep for a few weeks.
Occasionally, it's a good idea to stir to promote oxygenation.
The color of the solution should be tea-colored. If it looks darker, you should dilute the solution with water.,
Comfrey
Comfrey tea as fertiliser has been somewhat controversial. It is rich in potassium, which plants like tomatoes enjoy, but also contains toxins (so-called pyrrolizidine alkaloids) that can be absorbed by the plants. It is still often used in crops, especially in the USA and England. Since comfrey has deep roots, it efficiently absorbs nutrients from deeper soil layers. The plant contains potassium, calcium, iron, selenium, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, magnesium, and of course nitrogen.
How to make comfrey tea:
Fertiliser tea is made from about a kilo of plants and 15 liters of water following the same principle as nettle tea.
