The small garden – tips and guidance
Garden
Even a small townhouse or smaller villa plot offers many possibilities for wonderful gardening, growing and housing for our pollinating friends. Plan the area you have available according to the needs and desires you have for your garden. Is it for play, time to relax, growing or large gatherings that will be accommodated here?

Most of us will have the opportunity to eat outside in our garden
A patio in wood or stone with easy access to the kitchen is often high on the wishlist. Here you might even have space for a grill and maybe an outdoor kitchen, with a small herb garden nearby. Herbs can be grown in pots or balcony planters. Surround this area with plants to create a good atmosphere. It could be a hedge, a trellis with climbing plants, or a couple of beautiful, standalone bushes.
Cultivate your own food
Maximize the growing area by removing the grass lawn. The easiest way to grow is in planters, which can be arranged in many different ways. The space between the planters can be covered with gravel or pine bark. Of course, those who prefer can plant directly in the ground, especially if the soil where you live is fertile. Choose crops based on what your family likes to eat, so it's truly beneficial. Spice up the herb and vegetable crops with berry bushes and fruit trees. There are varieties that grow slowly and stay smaller in size.
Confused
We are often a little too good at tidying up our gardens, and can therefore clear away many of the habitats for the pollinating insects we are so dependent on. An example is to allow a part (or all) of the plot to become a meadow - you can still cut paths where you want to walk. Another option is to leave old wood (logs/sticks) in a corner. It is a great hiding place for many insects. Trees and shrubs (preferably old ones) provide protection for small birds, so don't cut down everything if you move to an overgrown garden. If you add some sand in a southern area of your plot, this is an excellent home for wild bees.
