Ground covering plants - how to succeed
Groundcovers are a collective term for low-growing, bulky shrubs, conifers, and perennials. These plants do well in a garden and provide a green carpet that prevents weeds from growing freely.
Since there are so many different ground covering plants, chances are you'll find one that suits your needs. Under tall trees they create a dense undergrowth, on slopes they provide an easy-care surface and in beds they create beautiful transitions between other plants.
Planting and caring for ground covering plants
The most impressive and easy-care variety is when you choose just one or maybe a couple of varieties. The ground covering plants are usually not the most eye-catching, but they create harmony in the background. Mix potting soil into the soil and water well after planting.
Keep weeds at bay until the plants have grown together and are able to prevent weeds from breaking through. Perennials are cut back in spring with a secateurs or trimmer, depending on how much is to be trimmed. Fertilize with garden fertilizer in spring.
