Lemon
The background of the lemon seems to be somewhat unclear, but it is considered to originate from India and today it is grown in many parts of the world and is a staple in many households. The lemon comes in many varieties, but the similarity lies in the yellow, fresh color, the aromatic peel and the acidic pulp. As an ornamental plant, the lemon is primarily grown for its foliage and flowers. The flowers are strongly fragrant and resemble large porcelain stars. The flowers are in dense clusters and can bloom at any time of the year, but usually in both spring and winter. The foliage is fresh and green with large oblong leathery leaves. The growth is open, wide and upright.
Calamondin
Calamondin is a cross between mandarin and kumquat. The variety is mostly used as an ornamental plant, but is also grown for its fruit juice. The fruits are small, round and orange. The taste is sour and slightly bitter. The fruits can be eaten whole with the peel on, but are not the best in taste. They are therefore an excellent variety for decoration. The flowering and the wonderful fragrance are the main reasons why this citrus plant is so well liked. The flowers resemble white porcelain stars, and can bloom all year round and completely cover the dark green, dense foliage. The growth habit of the calamondin is compact and bush-like or upright and slightly columnar. A good feature of the calamondin is that it is hardy and can tolerate a slightly cooler location. The bonus is that it blooms at the same time as it bears fruit.
Lime
Lime is a round, emerald to light green citrus fruit with a very aromatic peel and a sour taste. Lime is a staple in many world cuisines and an indispensable ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes. Limes have no core, and both the fruit juice and peel are used. The lime plant blooms with small, star-shaped, fragrant flowers on green, glossy, and compact foliage.
Orange
Today, oranges can be purchased all over the world and are loved for their good taste. Both the peel and the fruit are used, and the pulp is divided into boats. The orange needs sun and warmth to thrive. In Norway, it is primarily grown as an ornamental plant in pots, where the quality is in the foliage and fragrant, white flowers. The orange can bloom all year round, and the growth habit is wide and slightly vase-shaped to upright. Perfect for growing in large pots!
